Having problems figuring out your personal style? Why not stock up on basics first and work your way up! I’ve listed my personal picks on basic wardrobe essentials that I believe are a must-have for every closet!

Another day has come and you wake up from a wonderful sleep. You go to the dining room to have breakfast, take a shower and stare at your closet.. continue browsing through your clothing racks for 15 mins.. 20 mins..  then starting to panic because nothing seems to look good on you! “I don’t know what to wear!”, a feeling we girls (or even boys) probably know all too well!

Working in a corporate environment like mine is a challenge itself because (1) the fact we don’t have any uniforms and (2) that we need to “dress appropriately” almost everyday. The struggle of having to decide what to wear every morning  is real! One of the solutions that works for me is to plan an outfit a night before to avoid procrastinating in the morning but sometimes even this is impossible considering our busy schedules. Another no-fail solution that best works not just for me  but for everyone as well is to work on your basics.  Below are some of my basic essential that will save you on your “I have nothing to wear” moments.

1. White Shirt

When you ask “What is the most basic clothing one must have?” to the most fashionable person on this planet, most of the time (if not always) a plain white T-shirt is probably the answer you’ll get.  No-brainer here as this item is very versatile that you can dress up or down. With a white shirt, one can go from an off duty look to something very fashionable. Aimee Song of SongOfStyle.com even wore a plain white shirt to Paris Fashion Week attending the Balman Show!

2. Denim Jeans

One can never go wrong with denim jeans. Whether it be light washed, blue denims or dark washed, it will never go out of style! When its summer, you can go with tattered denim jeans for that breathable feel. On lazy days, one can opt for boyfriend jeans for a more laid back look. On cooler days I prefer wearing dark washed jeans. Whatever the season, there are always perfect denim jeans for that!

3. Outerwear

Adding an outerwear to any outfit instantly makes the whole outfit look like you’ve spent hours creating the look. Not only will it keep you warm but also give that extra oomph to any outfit!

4. Simple Flats

Classic doll shoes are a must-have for every wardrobe. I’d rather say white sneakers but I’m basing this list on my current lifestyle and like I said, I am working on a corporate environment and basic closed flats are my bread and butter. They can be the right shoes for attending an event, to attending a meeting , or going straight to grocery shopping!

5. Bags and Accessories

Ahhh accessories where do I start? I once wore a plain grey shirt with dark colored trousers. Super plain and boring right? But when I added a printed scarf  and a hat on my boring outfit, it instantly looked so fashionable! Another option is by replacing the scarf with layers of necklaces. Can you imagine? See? With just a bit of experimenting and a few pieces of accessories to play with, it can make your outfit from nope to Dope in an instant! haha
