Reflecting on our incredible 10-day journey through the heart of Japan, one experience stands out like a beacon of luxury and tranquility: our 2 nights stay at Shangri-La Tokyo. As we reminisce about our adventures exploring the vibrant streets of Tokyo and the breathtaking landscapes of Kawaguchiko, it’s impossible not to linger on the unforgettable moments we shared within the walls of this opulent retreat.
Nestled amidst the bustling metropolis of Tokyo, the Shangri-La exudes an air of serenity from the moment you step foot into its lobby. From the warm greeting of the staff (they even bow as the elevator doors close) to the breathtaking views of the city skyline from our room, every detail was meticulously curated to ensure a truly unforgettable experience.
Deluxe Twin Room
Stepping into our room at the Shangri-La Tokyo was a moment of sheer delight, made even more special by the fact that it was my birthday trip. As we entered, we were greeted by a thoughtful surprise—a complimentary bottle of wine, a gesture that set the tone for the unforgettable experience that awaited us.
The first thing that struck us was the spaciousness of the room, offering ample space to move around and unwind after a day of exploration.
The layout was thoughtfully designed, with every detail meticulously planned to ensure maximum comfort and convenience. There was plenty of closet space to store our belongings, keeping the room clutter-free and organized throughout our stay.
The bathroom was a luxurious retreat in itself, boasting generous proportions and elegant fixtures. A separate room for the bathtub provided a secluded space for relaxation, while the rain showers offered a rejuvenating experience after a long day of sightseeing. The vanity area was well-appointed, with ample counter space and a magnifying mirror for grooming essentials.
One of the highlights of the bathroom was undoubtedly the Japanese toilet, a modern marvel of technology that added a touch of luxury to our stay. Its advanced features and heated seat provided a level of comfort that we never knew we needed.
As we explored further, we discovered a well-stocked mini-bar, offering a tempting selection of snacks and beverages to enjoy at our leisure. A Nespresso machine stood ready to satisfy our caffeine fix, while a selection of tea and a charming tea pot set awaited us for a soothing cup of tea.
The sleeping area was equally impressive, with twin-sized beds that felt more like kings in their generous proportions. Turn Down Service
Our stay at the Shangri-La Tokyo was not only marked by luxurious accommodations and impeccable service during the day but also by the thoughtful touch of turn-down service in the evening. This was my first encounter with turn-down service, a practice not commonly found back home, and it left a lasting impression on me.
For those unfamiliar with turn-down service, it involves the preparation of the room for a guest to sleep in, typically performed in the early evening. This includes tasks such as slightly turning back the comforter on the bed, dimming the lights, and other subtle adjustments to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere for a restful night’s sleep.
It was already late when we returned to the hotel after a day of exploring. As we entered our room, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bed had already been made, with plush pillows and soft linens inviting us to sink into its embrace. A pair of comfortable pajamas had been thoughtfully placed on the bed, a gesture that made us feel right at home.
But the attention to detail didn’t stop there. A floor towel had been neatly laid beside the bed, anticipating our needs and ensuring that our stay remained as comfortable and convenient as possible. The curtains had been drawn, allowing us to enjoy a sense of privacy and tranquility as we settled in for the night. A glass and a bottle of water on our bedside was a cherry on top.
As I took in the scene before me, I couldn’t help but appreciate the thoughtfulness of the staff at the Shangri-La Tokyo.
